Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Intensive Care Nurses (PICU) to join our critical care team at Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Continuously monitor vital signs, interpret complex physiological data, and operate advanced life support equipment such as ventilators, ECMO, and CRRT.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and complex IV therapies, accurately calculating dosages based on patient weight and condition.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians, respiratory therapists, child life specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, identify changes in patient status, and initiate appropriate interventions promptly.
  • Educate and support patient families, providing clear communication regarding treatment plans, prognoses, and emotional support during highly stressful times.
  • Maintain precise and thorough electronic health records and documentation of all patient care activities.
  • Participate in daily rounds, critical care conferences, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the PICU.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and quality of care.

Required Skills

  • Current RN license (or eligibility for licensure) in the state of California.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in critical care nursing principles and pediatric assessment.
  • Proficiency in operating advanced medical equipment relevant to PICU care.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a high-stress, team-oriented environment.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient and family-centered care.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex patient assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) a plus.
  • Specialty certification such as CCRN (Pediatric) or CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse).
  • Experience with electronic health record systems specific to Kaiser Permanente (e.g., Epic).
  • Previous experience working in a large academic or teaching hospital setting.
  • Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish) to support our diverse patient population.
