Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Pharmacy Inventory Manager to join our dedicated team at Campbelltown Hospital. This is a critical role responsible for overseeing all aspects of pharmaceutical inventory management, ensuring optimal stock levels, minimizing waste, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in optimizing our supply chain, enhancing operational efficiency, and ultimately contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care. This is a hospital-based position requiring an on-site presence to manage the complexities of a dynamic pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust inventory control systems and procedures for all pharmaceutical products.
- Monitor stock levels, conduct regular audits, and implement strategies to reduce discrepancies and prevent stockouts or overstocking.
- Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement and timely delivery of medications and supplies.
- Manage the ordering, receiving, storing, and distribution of pharmaceutical inventory, including controlled substances.
- Implement and oversee processes for tracking expiration dates and managing returns or disposals of expired/damaged stock.
- Utilize and optimize pharmacy inventory management software and other relevant systems to track and report on inventory metrics.
- Ensure strict adherence to all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and pharmaceutical guidelines.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to forecast demand and optimize inventory planning.
- Analyze inventory data to identify trends, improve efficiency, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor pharmacy staff on best practices for inventory handling and management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in inventory management, preferably within a hospital pharmacy or healthcare setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in using inventory management software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain principles and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to lead process improvement initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Pharmacy, or a related field.
- Certification in inventory management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM).
- Experience with specific hospital pharmacy inventory systems (e.g., MedChart, Best Practice).
- Knowledge of Australian healthcare regulations pertaining to pharmaceuticals.
