Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team in Rimouski, Quebec. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic healthcare setting. As an Experienced Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care, ensuring patient comfort and safety. You will play a crucial role in the diagnostic process by accurately collecting and processing specimens, adhering strictly to all protocols and maintaining meticulous records. Your expertise will contribute directly to the quality of patient care and the efficiency of our laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages, including difficult draws, following established protocols.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to hospital and laboratory standards.
- Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all specimen collections and patient information.
- Adhere to strict infection control and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Provide excellent patient care, demonstrating compassion and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior phlebotomists as needed.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and specimen requirements.
- Excellent patient identification and specimen labeling skills.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Adherence to strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized phlebotomy program (e.g., CSMLS or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in a hospital or large clinic setting.
- Experience with diverse patient populations and age groups.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is a significant asset.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
