Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic team in Whitecourt, Alberta. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to significant building projects, ensuring the safety and efficiency of critical building systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of plumbing and fire protection systems for various commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design calculations and layouts for domestic water, sanitary, storm, natural gas, and medical gas systems.
- Design comprehensive fire suppression systems, including sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge) and standpipe systems.
- Conduct code analysis and ensure all designs comply with local, provincial (Alberta Building Code), and national (National Building Code of Canada, NFPA) codes and standards.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with architects, other engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors to ensure integrated and constructible designs.
- Review shop drawings, attend site visits, and perform construction administration duties to ensure adherence to design specifications.
- Utilize BIM/CAD software (Revit, AutoCAD MEP) for design and documentation.
- Participate in project meetings and effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing and development.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.
- Proficiency in Canadian building codes (NBC, ABC) and NFPA standards.
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Alberta, or eligibility for registration.
- LEED Accredited Professional (AP) certification.
- Experience with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, SprinkCAD).
- Familiarity with other building systems (HVAC, electrical).
