Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic team in Wallaceburg, Ontario. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a variety of building projects, designing critical mechanical systems that ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance. The successful candidate will work on all phases of projects, from conceptual design through construction administration, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialized water systems for various building types.
  • Develop comprehensive fire protection systems including sprinklers, standpipes, and fire pumps, ensuring compliance with local codes and standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, schematics, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Perform site visits, surveys, and condition assessments to gather data and verify existing systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors to integrate plumbing and fire protection systems seamlessly into overall building designs.
  • Review construction documents and shop drawings for compliance with design intent and project specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical support during the construction administration phase.
  • Stay current with industry trends, codes, and regulations related to plumbing and fire protection.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff as opportunities arise.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in plumbing and fire protection system design for buildings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Strong understanding of the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, and relevant NFPA standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for registration.
  • LEED AP certification or experience with sustainable design principles.
  • Experience with hydraulic calculations software for fire protection systems.
  • Previous experience with a consulting engineering firm.
  • Experience across diverse project sectors (e.g., commercial, residential, institutional, industrial).
