Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Public Cemetery Groundskeeper. This vital role involves maintaining the aesthetic beauty and respectful atmosphere of our public cemeteries. You will be responsible for the upkeep of grounds, including mowing, trimming, and general landscape maintenance. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to performing duties with reverence and respect for the deceased and their families. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for this important role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general groundskeeping duties, including mowing, edging, trimming, and pruning.
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of cemetery grounds, pathways, and common areas.
- Operate and maintain various landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Assist with the preparation and restoration of burial sites as needed, ensuring dignity and precision.
- Identify and report any maintenance issues, hazards, or concerns promptly.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental guidelines.
- Interact with the public in a courteous and respectful manner, answering basic questions or directing them to appropriate staff.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of appearance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to learn and operate landscaping equipment safely.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Respectful and empathetic demeanor towards the solemn nature of a cemetery environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of basic plant care and horticulture principles.
- Experience operating light to medium-duty landscaping equipment.
