Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Public Facilities Handyman / Maintenance operative. This is an entry-level trade position, perfect for someone looking to start a career in facilities maintenance without prior experience. Full training will be provided to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this role. You will assist our experienced maintenance team in ensuring our public facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained, contributing directly to the comfort and enjoyment of our community members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior maintenance staff with routine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks across various public facilities.
  • Perform basic handyman duties such as minor carpentry, painting, plastering, and general repairs under supervision.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and report findings.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas and facilities.
  • Learn and adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively after receiving training.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and carry out assigned tasks promptly.
  • Support the setup and takedown of equipment for various public events.
  • Engage positively with colleagues and the public, representing the Council professionally.
