Job Description
The City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Public Lands Groundskeeper to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and beautification of Norman’s parks, greenways, and public grounds. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain public parks, athletic fields, green spaces, and facilities.
- Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding.
- Plant, cultivate, prune, and fertilize trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
- Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
- Remove litter, debris, and perform general cleanup of public areas.
- Support special event setup and takedown as needed.
- Adhere to safety regulations and procedures at all times.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping practices and plant care.
- Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment safely or willingness to learn.
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or park maintenance.
- Experience operating commercial landscaping equipment.
- Familiarity with local plant species and irrigation systems.
