Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Public Lands Groundskeeper to join our valued team at Canterbury City Council. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the upkeep and beautification of Canterbury’s cherished public parks, gardens, and green spaces. You will play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of horticultural and general grounds maintenance, ensuring our public lands remain welcoming and pristine. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, and hedge cutting.
- Maintain flower beds, shrubberies, and planted areas to a high standard.
- Operate and maintain a variety of horticultural machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure public areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from litter and debris.
- Report any hazards, damage, or concerns regarding public land to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with the planting of new trees, shrubs, and seasonal bedding displays.
- Undertake minor repairs and maintenance to paths, fences, and outdoor furniture as required.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor role (minimum 12 months).
- Ability to operate various horticultural equipment safely.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices relevant to grounds maintenance.
- Full UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture, Amenity Horticulture, or a related field.
- PA1/PA6 certification for pesticide application.
- Experience working within a public sector or local authority environment.
- Knowledge of local plant species and horticultural best practices.
