Job Description
Join the vital team at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office as a Public Safety Telecommunicator! Key Responsibilities
- Receive, analyze, and prioritize emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service.
- Efficiently gather critical information from callers to determine the nature and location of incidents.
- Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of calls and dispatch activities using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and communicate effectively with field units.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations as appropriate.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress situations.
- Learn and apply departmental policies, procedures, and relevant laws.
- Operate multi-line telephone systems and other communication equipment.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- No prior experience required; full training provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience in a customer service or call center environment.
- Familiarity with the geographic area of Washoe County.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
- Completion of college-level coursework in criminal justice or a related field.
