Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Public Schools Branch as a Public School Bus Driver. This vital role ensures the safe and timely transportation of students to and from schools within the Charlottetown area, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations. You will operate school buses on established routes, maintaining a secure and positive environment for students. Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on designated routes and schedules, ensuring punctuality.
• Ensure the well-being and safety of all student passengers at all times, including during loading and unloading.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, documenting and reporting any mechanical issues or deficiencies.
• Maintain discipline and manage student behavior on the bus in accordance with Public Schools Branch policies and procedures.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, school bus regulations, and PSB safety protocols.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and supervisors regarding transportation matters.
• Keep the bus clean, fueled, and well-maintained both internally and externally.
• Attend all mandatory safety meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs as required.

Required Skills

• Valid Class 2 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement (or the ability to obtain prior to employment).
• Clean driver's abstract (no recent traffic violations or accidents).
• Strong commitment to safety and the welfare of children.
• Excellent defensive driving skills and a thorough understanding of road safety.
• Ability to maintain discipline and manage student behavior effectively and respectfully.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and parents.
• Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a school bus driver or commercial driver.
• Knowledge of Charlottetown and surrounding Prince Edward Island road networks and routes.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Experience working with children or youth in a supervisory capacity.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to identify and report minor bus maintenance needs.
