Job Description
Join Alliant Energy as a Public Utilities Meter Reader in Waterloo, IA! This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working independently outdoors and are seeking a vital role in their community. As a Meter Reader, you will be responsible for accurately collecting utility usage data from residential and commercial meters across various routes. This role requires attention to detail, good time management, and the ability to work in all weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read and record utility meter data using a handheld device.
- Navigate assigned routes efficiently and independently.
- Walk extensively throughout the day, often over uneven terrain.
- Identify and report unusual or hazardous conditions around meters.
- Interact professionally with customers when necessary, answering basic questions or directing them to appropriate resources.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
- Perform basic maintenance checks on company equipment and vehicles as required.
- Manage time effectively to complete daily routes within schedule.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic computer literacy to operate handheld data collection devices.
- Physical ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for occasional customer interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a role requiring independent work or outdoor tasks.
- Familiarity with the Waterloo, IA area.
