Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiation Safety Officer to join our team in Ballina, NSW. This pivotal role involves overseeing and ensuring compliance with all radiation safety regulations and best practices across our industrial operations. The Radiation Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining radiation safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing expert guidance to project teams. You will play a crucial part in protecting our employees, the public, and the environment from potential radiation hazards, contributing directly to our company’s unwavering commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation safety programs and procedures in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Conduct regular radiation surveys, inspections, and audits of industrial sites, equipment, and processes.
- Manage and maintain inventory of all radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices.
- Provide expert advice and training to staff on radiation safety protocols, emergency procedures, and safe handling practices.
- Investigate and report all radiation-related incidents, near misses, and non-compliance issues, recommending corrective actions.
- Ensure all personnel working with or near radiation sources are adequately trained and medically monitored.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external consultants, and internal stakeholders on all matters related to radiation safety.
- Maintain accurate records of radiation doses, equipment calibration, and safety documentation.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to radiation incidents.
- Stay abreast of new legislation, technologies, and best practices in radiation safety.
Required Skills
- Formal qualification in Radiation Safety, Health Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Radiation Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial, mining, or construction environment.
- Thorough understanding of Australian radiation safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice (e.g., ARPANSA regulations).
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage radiation safety programs.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for training, advising, and liaising with various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using radiation detection equipment and interpreting results.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Health Physics or Radiation Protection.
- Experience with NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) techniques involving industrial radiography.
- Demonstrated experience in a large-scale industrial project environment.
- Certification from a recognized radiation safety body.
