Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and proactive Recycling Education Officer to join our dynamic Waste Management team. This role is crucial for engaging with the Griffith community to promote best practices in waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery. You will be responsible for developing and delivering educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives to diverse audiences, including schools, community groups, and businesses. Your efforts will directly contribute to improving environmental outcomes and fostering a more sustainable future for Griffith.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate waste education programs and materials for various community segments.
- Conduct presentations, workshops, and community events on recycling, composting, and waste reduction.
- Engage with schools to deliver curriculum-aligned environmental education.
- Act as a primary contact for community inquiries related to waste management and recycling.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to enhance waste management initiatives.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of educational programs and community engagement efforts.
- Assist in the development of communication strategies for waste and recycling campaigns.
- Promote participation in Council-led environmental initiatives and events.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in community engagement, education, or environmental outreach (minimum 12 months).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging educational content.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated understanding of waste management principles and environmental sustainability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Education, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience working within a local government context.
- Knowledge of local waste management facilities and systems.
- Experience with social media and digital communication tools for community engagement.
