Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Recycling Outreach Officer to join our Waste and Recycling team. This vital role involves engaging directly with residents across Ipswich to promote and educate on our various recycling schemes, waste reduction initiatives, and responsible waste disposal practices. You will be instrumental in fostering a stronger community commitment to environmental sustainability, helping Ipswich achieve its ambitious recycling targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct door-to-door visits and attend community events to engage with residents.
- Educate householders on effective recycling methods, waste sorting, and reduction techniques.
- Distribute information leaflets, promotional materials, and recycling guides.
- Address resident queries and concerns regarding waste and recycling services.
- Collect feedback from the community to inform service improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and engagement data.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance recycling participation.
- Identify and report common issues or areas for targeted intervention.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with diverse community groups.
- Genuine passion for environmental issues and sustainability.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for travel within the borough.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in community engagement, public outreach, or environmental education.
- Knowledge of local authority waste management policies and recycling practices.
- Ability to speak additional languages relevant to Ipswich's diverse community.
