Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers for the upcoming winter season. This is a crucial seasonal contract role within our public sector operations, essential for keeping our community safe and accessible during inclement weather. As a key member of our winter maintenance team, you will operate heavy equipment, including snow plows and gritters, to clear roads, sidewalks, and municipal properties. This position requires commitment to public safety, flexibility for varying shifts, and the ability to respond promptly to weather events.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate snow plows, gritters, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Clear snow and ice from municipal roads, sidewalks, and public areas accordingING to established routes and procedures.
- Apply salt, sand, or other anti-icing materials to roadways and public spaces.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, reporting any mechanical issues.
- Maintain accurate logs of activities, hours worked, and materials used.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and departmental policies.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs during snow and ice events.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure comprehensive coverage and timely service.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 3 or D driver's license with air brake endorsement (or equivalent commercial license for heavy vehicles in Nova Scotia).
- Clean driver's abstract.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting and working in adverse weather conditions.
- Reliable and punctual, with availability for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating snow plows, gritters, or similar heavy machinery.
- Familiarity with Bridgewater and surrounding areas road networks.
- Experience working in a public sector or municipal environment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor equipment maintenance.
