Job Description
This Social Work Student Placement offers an invaluable opportunity for a passionate and dedicated student to gain practical experience within a dynamic community services setting. Based in our Newcastle office, you will work alongside experienced social workers and support staff, contributing to projects that directly impact vulnerable individuals and families. This placement is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the diverse facets of community-focused social work, including case management support, program development assistance, and direct client engagement under professional supervision. Key Responsibilities
- Assist case managers with client assessments and care plan development.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to service delivery planning.
- Support the coordination of community programs and events.
- Conduct research on relevant social issues and policy developments.
- Engage with clients in a supportive and empathetic manner, under supervision.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with organisational policies.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service outcomes.
- Undertake administrative tasks as required to support team operations.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community well-being.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an empathetic approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Organisational skills with attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
- A willingness to learn, adapt, and seek feedback in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a community or social services setting.
- Basic understanding of the Australian social services sector and relevant legislation.
- Current NSW Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Interest in specific areas of community services, such as disability support, youth services, or homelessness.
- Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse community needs.
