Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Student Tech Intern to join our Cybersecurity and Risk team in Kalgoorlie. This internship offers an unparalleled opportunity for a university student to gain practical, hands-on experience in the critical field of cybersecurity within a large-scale industrial environment. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to real-world projects aimed at protecting our digital infrastructure, data, and operational technology systems. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the identification and assessment of cybersecurity risks across IT and OT environments.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of security controls and policies.
- Participate in vulnerability assessments and penetration testing activities, learning to interpret results.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of incident response plans and procedures.
- Assist with security awareness training initiatives for employees.
- Collect and analyse security-related data to identify trends and potential threats.
- Document security processes, configurations, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with various IT and operational teams to understand security requirements and challenges.
- Research emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and best practices.
- Provide administrative support to the Cybersecurity and Risk team as needed.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, network protocols, and operating systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- High level of curiosity and a strong desire to learn.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
- Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
