Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Supply Chain Director to lead our complex international supply chain operations based in Nelson, New Zealand. This pivotal role involves overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of our global supply chain network, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and resilience. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of international logistics, trade regulations, and supply chain best practices, with a proven track record of driving significant improvements in a multinational environment. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be instrumental in shaping our future growth and ensuring our supply chain capabilities meet the evolving demands of our global customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global supply chain strategy aligned with Mainfreight's business objectives and international growth plans.
  • Oversee end-to-end supply chain processes, including procurement, logistics, warehousing, distribution, and inventory management across multiple geographies.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing supply chain team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency gains, and service level enhancements throughout the supply chain.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers, logistics partners, and customs agencies, ensuring compliance and optimal performance.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and technology to monitor supply chain performance, identify trends, and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all international trade regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, finance, and IT teams to optimize integrated business planning.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives within the supply chain, seeking environmentally friendly and ethical practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role involving international operations.
  • Proven expertise in global logistics, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and international trade compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in supply chain planning software and ERP systems.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of developing and motivating diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, SCPro).
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing or highly complex global environment.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to international trade.
