Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized, efficient, and energetic Theatrical Wardrobe / Costume Dresser to join our dynamic backstage team. This role is crucial for ensuring seamless costume changes and maintaining the integrity of all wardrobe elements during live performances. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, working closely with performers and fellow crew members to execute quick changes and resolve any costume issues under pressure. This is an on-site position requiring flexibility and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute rapid costume changes for performers during live theatrical productions, adhering strictly to show cues and timing.
- Organize and maintain costume racks, dressing rooms, and quick-change areas with meticulous attention to detail.
- Perform basic costume repairs, alterations, and steaming/pressing as needed before and during performances.
- Assist with costume fitting sessions and ensure all garments are stage-ready.
- Monitor costume condition and report any damage or issues to the Wardrobe Supervisor.
- Collaborate effectively with actors, stage management, and other technical departments.
- Maintain a clean and orderly backstage wardrobe area.
- Assist with the load-in and strike of costumes for various productions.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to work efficiently and calmly in a high-pressure, fast-paced live theatre environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetic consistency.
- Basic hand-sewing and garment repair skills.
- Ability to take direction quickly and execute tasks precisely.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive teamwork.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry costumes and equipment for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of professional experience as a dresser, wardrobe assistant, or similar role in live theatre.
- Formal training in costume technology, fashion design, or theatrical production.
- Knowledge of various fabric types and appropriate care techniques.
- Experience with period costumes and specialized theatrical garments.
