Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Traffic Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in Newcastle upon Tyne, focusing on crucial road safety projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring engineer to gain hands-on experience in a leading global firm, contributing to projects that enhance community safety and sustainable transportation. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learning industry best practices and supporting the delivery of innovative solutions for our clients. No prior professional experience is required; we are looking for candidates eager to learn and grow within the field of traffic engineering. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in conducting traffic surveys and data collection.
- Support the analysis of traffic data to identify safety issues and trends.
- Contribute to the development of road safety audit reports and recommendations.
- Participate in site visits and inspections related to traffic and road safety projects.
- Aid in the preparation of technical drawings, plans, and reports using relevant software.
- Research and apply national and local design standards and guidelines for road safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on integrated transport solutions.
- Present findings and progress to project teams and stakeholders as required.
- Support the team in administrative tasks related to project delivery.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in traffic engineering and road safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Basic understanding of traffic modelling software (e.g., VISSIM, Paramics).
- Previous academic project experience related to transportation or road safety.
- Valid UK driving license.
