Job Description
Downer Group is seeking a dedicated and skilled Traffic Systems Electrician to join our infrastructure team in Launceston. This critical full-time role involves working night shifts to ensure the seamless operation and maintenance of Launceston’s traffic signal systems and related electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various traffic control devices, contributing directly to the safety and efficiency of our road network. This position offers top hourly rates for qualified professionals committed to working during non-peak hours, minimizing disruption to daily traffic flow. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on traffic signal systems, controllers, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Diagnose and repair faults in traffic signal equipment, including wiring, vehicle detection systems, and pedestrian signals.
- Install new traffic signal hardware, conduits, cabling, and communication devices according to design specifications and relevant standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of traffic systems to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs for traffic signal malfunctions outside of regular business hours.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system configurations.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, particularly when working in live traffic environments.
- Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Australian Electrical Licence (A Grade or equivalent).
- Valid Tasmanian C-class Driver's Licence.
- Proven experience as an Electrician, preferably in an outdoor or infrastructure setting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical diagrams.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work effectively and safely during night shifts.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with traffic signal systems, ITS devices, or other civil electrical infrastructure.
- High Voltage (HV) and/or Low Voltage (LV) Switching accreditation.
- Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights certifications.
- Experience operating elevated work platforms (EWPs).
- Strong understanding of Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS 3000).
