Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Train Controller with a strong focus on infrastructure support to join our critical operations team in Dubbo, NSW. This high-impact role is essential for maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our rail network infrastructure. As a Train Controller, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains, overseeing track conditions, managing planned and unplanned infrastructure works, and coordinating with various teams to ensure seamless rail operations. Your expertise will directly contribute to operational excellence and the strategic management of our valuable rail assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control train movements within assigned sections of the rail network.
  • Monitor track conditions and infrastructure assets, promptly reporting defects or incidents.
  • Coordinate and authorize track access for maintenance, construction, and inspection teams.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and operating procedures for all rail activities.
  • Respond effectively to operational incidents, emergencies, and infrastructure failures.
  • Liaise with train drivers, track workers, signal technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of train movements, incidents, and infrastructure activities.
  • Utilize advanced control systems and communication tools to optimize network flow.
  • Participate in incident investigations and contribute to safety improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Train Controller or similar rail operations role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian rail operating rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using rail control systems and communications equipment.
  • Commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Rail Operations, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific rail infrastructure management systems.
  • Certifications in rail safety, incident management, or emergency response.
  • Familiarity with the regional rail network in New South Wales.
