Job Description

Pacific National is seeking a dedicated and physically fit Train Freight Unloader to join our team at the Bathurst railway depot. In this vital full-time role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient unloading of various freight from rail wagons, ensuring goods are moved and organised according to operational procedures. This is a hands-on position requiring strength, stamina, and a commitment to workplace safety. Full training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently unload various types of freight from train wagons.
  • Operate manual handling equipment accurately (e.g., pallet jacks, trolleys).
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures for railway operations and manual handling.
  • Inspect freight for damage and report any discrepancies.
  • Organise and stack unloaded goods in designated areas.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment within the depot.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely turnaround of trains.
  • Perform other general labour duties as required.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform sustained physical labour, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy items.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and following instructions.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of warehouse or depot operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role (e.g., warehousing, construction, logistics).
  • Current forklift license (LF class) is a plus, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of railway freight operations.
