Job Description

Are you looking to kick-start your career in a dynamic and crucial sector? We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our Government Commerce advisory team as a Trainee Tariff & Trade Classifier. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with no prior experience in trade classification. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training to become proficient in interpreting complex trade regulations, applying tariff codes, and ensuring compliance for government-related commerce projects. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to develop a specialist skillset in international trade, customs procedures, and government compliance, with a clear path for professional growth within a world-renowned firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undergo structured training to understand national and international trade regulations, customs duties, and tariff classification systems (e.g., Harmonised System).
  • Assist senior classifiers in researching and analysing product specifications to accurately assign appropriate tariff codes.
  • Learn to interpret legal notes, general rules of interpretation (GRIs), and classification opinions to ensure correct classification.
  • Support the preparation of documentation required for customs declarations and trade compliance submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and government clients to gather necessary information for classification decisions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in trade legislation, customs policies, and international agreements.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing projects related to government commerce and trade advisory.
  • Ensure all work is performed with accuracy, integrity, and adherence to professional standards.

Preferred Qualifications
