Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Tariff & Trade Classifier to join our growing team in Toronto. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with no prior experience in trade classification or government commerce. You will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, learning the intricacies of tariff classification, trade regulations, customs compliance, and international trade policies specific to government commerce. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build a career in a critical and specialized field, contributing to the efficient flow of goods and compliance with global trade standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undergo comprehensive training on the Harmonized System (HS) and other relevant tariff classification methodologies.
  • Assist senior classifiers in researching and analyzing product characteristics to determine correct tariff codes.
  • Learn to interpret trade agreements, customs regulations, and government policies related to imports and exports.
  • Support the preparation of documentation required for customs declarations and trade compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of classification decisions and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to gather necessary information for classification purposes.
  • Stay informed about updates to trade laws, tariffs, and customs procedures.

Required Skills

Preferred Qualifications
