Job Description
Are you looking for a stable career with purpose? JEA is offering an incredible opportunity to join our team as a Trainee Water Treatment Plant Operator. No prior experience is required! We provide comprehensive, paid on-the-job training that will equip you with all the knowledge and skills needed to become a certified Water Treatment Plant Operator. In this role, you will learn to monitor, operate, and maintain the critical systems that ensure Jacksonville’s residents have access to clean, safe drinking water. Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all phases of the paid training program, demonstrating a strong eagerness to learn.
- Learn to monitor plant operations, including water flow, chemical levels, and equipment performance, under direct supervision.
- Assist certified operators with routine plant maintenance, sampling, and testing procedures.
- Develop a thorough understanding of water treatment processes, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of operational data and complete necessary reports.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the plant.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Florida Driver's License
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with equipment
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting
- Ability to read, understand, and follow technical instructions and safety procedures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as water treatment is a 24/7 operation
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, climb stairs, and work in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant coursework in science, math, or environmental studies
- Prior experience in a mechanically inclined role or industrial environment
