Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Weights & Measures Inspector. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to start a rewarding career in public service. No prior experience in weights and measures is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and knowledge. You will play a crucial role in protecting consumers and businesses by ensuring the accuracy of commercial measuring devices and packaged goods throughout Fort Worth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive extensive training on state and local weights and measures laws, regulations, and inspection procedures.
  • Accompany experienced inspectors on field visits to learn how to calibrate and test a variety of commercial weighing and measuring devices, including scales, fuel dispensers, and utility meters.
  • Learn to conduct inspections of packaged commodities to verify accuracy of net content statements.
  • Assist in investigating consumer complaints related to weights and measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and investigations.
  • Communicate effectively with business owners and the public regarding compliance requirements.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to continuously develop expertise.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Basic mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies.

  • Some experience in a customer service, technical, or regulatory compliance role.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical or electronic systems.
