Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Greenhouse / Horticulture Supervisor to oversee the daily operations and long-term health of our extensive greenhouse complex and various horticultural exhibits. This critical role involves managing staff, implementing propagation and cultivation programs, ensuring plant health, and maintaining the aesthetic standards of our collections. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of horticulturists and garden technicians.
- Develop and implement planting, propagation, and cultivation schedules for diverse plant collections.
- Monitor plant health, diagnose issues, and apply appropriate pest and disease control measures.
- Manage greenhouse environmental controls, irrigation systems, and nutrient delivery programs.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best horticultural practices.
- Maintain accurate records of plant inventory, treatments, and growth data.
- Collaborate with other departments to plan and execute garden displays and special projects.
- Manage budgets for supplies, equipment, and staffing within the assigned areas.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in greenhouse or horticultural management.
- Proven leadership and team supervision abilities.
- Strong knowledge of plant propagation, cultivation, and pest/disease management.
- Familiarity with greenhouse environmental control systems.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, or a related field.
- Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Certification in pesticide application (e.g., NY DEC applicator license).
- Proficiency with horticultural software or plant database systems.
