Job Description

Saint John Transit is actively seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Transit Operators / Bus Drivers in Training. This is an incredible entry-level opportunity with paid, comprehensive training provided from day one – no prior bus driving experience is required! If you’re a responsible driver with a commitment to safety and customer service, we want to hear from you. Upon successful completion of our rigorous training program, you will become a fully licensed and valued Transit Operator, responsible for transporting passengers safely and efficiently throughout the Saint John area.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate fully and successfully complete all aspects of the paid bus operator training program, including classroom and on-the-road instruction.
- Learn and adhere to all Saint John Transit policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Obtain and maintain the required provincial commercial driver's license (Class 2 with Air Brake endorsement) through company-sponsored training.
- Operate transit buses safely and punctually on designated routes, adhering to schedules.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with inquiries and ensuring a positive experience.
- Collect fares, issue transfers, and ensure accurate passenger counts.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or issues.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and other team members.
- Handle unexpected situations with professionalism and calm, ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) New Brunswick driver's license with a clean driving record for at least two years.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Ability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical ability to sit for extended periods, operate vehicle controls, and perform minor vehicle checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Familiarity with the Saint John area geography.
