Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Tunnel Control Room Operator to join our dynamic Transport Tech team in Newcastle. In this critical role, you will be responsible for monitoring the operational status of our state-of-the-art tunnel systems, ensuring the safety and smooth flow of traffic. Using advanced surveillance and control systems, you will identify and respond to incidents, emergencies, and operational anomalies within the tunnels. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, calm decision-making under pressure, and excellent communication skills to coordinate with field staff, emergency services, and other stakeholders. Full training on our specific systems and protocols will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor tunnel surveillance systems, traffic management systems, and environmental controls.
  • Detect and evaluate incidents, alarms, and system malfunctions within the tunnel network.
  • Initiate and coordinate appropriate responses to incidents, including activating emergency procedures and deploying resources.
  • Communicate effectively with on-site maintenance teams, emergency services, and other relevant authorities.
  • Operate tunnel ventilation, lighting, and communication systems as required.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of all incidents, actions, and system statuses.
  • Provide clear and timely information to the public via variable message signs and public address systems during incidents.
  • Adhere to all operational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in regular training and drills to maintain proficiency in emergency response.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a control room, dispatch, or monitoring role.
  • Experience in the transport, logistics, or emergency services sectors.
  • A diploma or certificate in a relevant technical field.
  • Knowledge of traffic management principles and emergency response protocols.
