Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Upcycling Furniture Restorer to join our creative team in the Wicker Park workshop. This is a hands-on role for an individual with a keen eye for design, a love for craftsmanship, and a desire to transform pre-loved furniture into unique, high-quality pieces. You will be instrumental in giving new life to various furniture items, applying your skills in repair, refinishing, painting, and creative design to meet Room & Board’s high standards of quality and aesthetics. Key Responsibilities
- Assess furniture pieces for repair, restoration, and upcycling potential.
- Execute repairs including structural fixes, joinery, and veneer work.
- Perform surface preparation, sanding, stripping, and staining.
- Apply various finishes, paints, and protective coatings.
- Collaborate with the design team on creative concepts for upcycled pieces.
- Manage time and materials efficiently to meet project deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Document work processes and material usage for each project.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 2 years in furniture repair, restoration, or woodworking.
- Proficiency in various finishing techniques (painting, staining, waxing).
- Strong understanding of different wood types and their properties.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard for quality craftsmanship.
- Creative problem-solving skills and an eye for aesthetic design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in furniture restoration, fine arts, or a related field.
- Experience with upholstery basics or fabric application.
- Portfolio demonstrating previous restoration or upcycling projects.
