Job Description
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Urban Designer to join our dynamic team in Leicester. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects, from strategic masterplanning and regeneration schemes to detailed public realm designs, both locally and internationally. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing creative and sustainable urban design solutions, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and engaging with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare urban design strategies, masterplans, design codes, and regeneration frameworks.
- Undertake site analysis, feasibility studies, and prepare design options.
- Produce high-quality illustrative drawings, diagrams, 3D visualisations, and presentations.
- Contribute to design workshops, public consultations, and stakeholder engagement events.
- Support the preparation of planning applications and design and access statements.
- Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams (planners, landscape architects, engineers) to integrate urban design principles.
- Assist in project management tasks, including meeting deadlines and budget requirements.
- Research and apply best practices in urban design, sustainability, and placemaking.
Required Skills
- Degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and SketchUp.
- Strong graphic and visual communication skills, including hand sketching.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrable understanding of urban design principles, policies, and best practices.
- Portfolio demonstrating relevant urban design project experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Design or a related specialism.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Knowledge of UK planning policy and regulations.
- Experience in client liaison and stakeholder engagement.
