Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Weekend Veterinary Kennel Assistant. This entry-level position is perfect for an enthusiastic animal lover looking to gain experience in a veterinary setting. You will be responsible for the daily care and comfort of our animal patients, ensuring a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. This role is crucial to the smooth operation of our hospital, especially during busy weekend hours, and offers a fantastic opportunity to learn about veterinary medicine firsthand.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for boarding and hospitalized animals, including feeding, watering, and walking.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and patient rooms regularly to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Monitor animal behavior, appetite, and waste elimination, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint during examinations or treatments.
- Wash, dry, and fold laundry, ensuring a constant supply of clean bedding and towels.
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and other medical equipment as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness of common areas, including reception, exam rooms, and outdoor runs.
- Walk dogs and provide enrichment activities for all animals in our care.
- Administer medications under direct supervision of veterinary staff, as required.
- Assist with client communication regarding animal drop-off and pick-up procedures.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, especially for weekend shifts.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- No prior veterinary experience required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience with animal handling, volunteering at a shelter, or pet ownership.
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and safety protocols.
- First aid certification for animals.
