Job Description
Are you passionate about working outdoors and eager to learn the craft of viticulture? Western Grape Estates is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Vineyard Assistants to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with no prior experience, as full, on-the-job training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and productivity of our vineyards, contributing directly to the quality of our premium wines. This physically active role requires a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors, with duties performed across various vineyard sites located near Perth, primarily in the Swan Valley region. Transport to and from vineyards will be coordinated.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform various manual vineyard tasks including pruning, trellising, shoot thinning, and canopy management
- Assist with grape harvesting, both manual and machine-assisted, during vintage season
- Participate in pest and disease monitoring and control measures
- Operate and maintain basic vineyard equipment and tools safely
- Install and maintain irrigation systems as directed
- Assist with general vineyard upkeep, including weed control and fence repairs
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and company protocols
- Report any issues or concerns regarding vine health or equipment to supervisors
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude
- Reliability and punctuality
- Eagerness to learn and follow instructions
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Valid Australian driver's license and reliable transportation to the Osborne Park depot
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in other outdoor manual labour roles (e.g., gardening, landscaping, farming)
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance
- First Aid certificate
- An interest in wine production or viticulture
