Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Waste Management Planner to join our dedicated Environmental Health and Waste Services team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of waste management across the Tweed Shire, contributing to strategic planning, policy development, and the implementation of innovative solutions. You will work on projects designed to reduce waste, increase resource recovery, and promote sustainable practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and community expectations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor waste management strategies, plans, and policies in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in waste management and resource recovery.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, proposals, and presentations for internal stakeholders, Council committees, and external agencies.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external contractors, community groups, and other levels of government on waste-related projects and initiatives.
- Provide expert advice and technical support on waste management issues, including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and disposal.
- Manage and oversee specific waste management projects from conception to completion, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
- Facilitate community engagement and education programs to promote responsible waste behaviour and increase participation in recycling schemes.
- Monitor waste data, track performance metrics, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within waste management operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in waste management planning or a related environmental field, preferably within a local government context.
- Strong understanding of waste legislation, regulations, and industry best practices in Australia.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop strategic recommendations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation delivery.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities, including planning, execution, and stakeholder management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for waste mapping and analysis.
- Familiarity with community engagement strategies in the public sector.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
