Job Description

Scotch College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Library Officer to join our dynamic library team. This role is integral to supporting student literacy development and providing essential technical assistance within our school library. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a love of reading, promoting digital literacy, and ensuring the smooth operation of library resources and technology. You will assist students and staff with research, resource discovery, and technical queries related to library systems and digital learning tools, contributing to a rich and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students and staff with locating, borrowing, and returning library resources.
  • Provide guidance and support to students on reading choices, fostering a love for literature.
  • Manage library collection maintenance, including cataloguing, shelving, and repairs.
  • Offer first-level technical support for library computers, printers, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Support the integration of digital learning tools and resources within the library environment.
  • Assist with library events, programs, and literacy initiatives.
  • Maintain a welcoming, organised, and engaging library space.
  • Process new acquisitions and manage inter-library loans.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with young people.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with library management systems (LMS) or similar databases.
  • Basic technical troubleshooting skills for computers and peripherals.
  • A genuine passion for reading, literature, and promoting literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Services or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a school library or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms.
  • Experience with cataloguing and classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal).
