Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Wastewater Management Intern to join our Public Works Department. This entry-level internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal wastewater operations, environmental compliance, and infrastructure management. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers and technicians, contributing to projects that impact the health and sustainability of our community. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for students or recent graduates eager to launch a career in environmental science or civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection and analysis of wastewater samples and data.
  • Support field operations, including inspections of sewer lines and treatment facilities.
  • Participate in the development and review of operational reports and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct research on best practices in wastewater treatment and environmental regulations.
  • Help maintain inventory of equipment and supplies for wastewater operations.
  • Collaborate with team members on various departmental projects as assigned.
  • Learn about SCADA systems and other technologies used in wastewater management.
  • Document findings and assist in preparing presentations for departmental meetings.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant associate's or bachelor's degree program (e.g., Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Chemical Engineering).
  • Strong interest in environmental protection and public service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of water quality principles or environmental regulations.
  • Prior coursework in hydrology, chemistry, or fluid mechanics.
