Job Description
Cajun Breezes Equestrian Center is seeking a dedicated and physically capable Equine Stable Hand / Mucker to join our team. This is a demanding role that requires early starts and consistent hard physical work, but offers the reward of working closely with magnificent animals in a beautiful setting. No prior professional experience as a stable hand is required; we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates reliability, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in equine care. Key Responsibilities
- Mucking stalls daily, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene for horses.
- Replenishing hay and water in stalls and paddocks.
- Cleaning and maintaining stable areas, including aisles, tack rooms, and feed rooms.
- Assisting with turnout and bringing in horses from pastures.
- Performing general barn maintenance tasks such as sweeping, tidying, and organizing equipment.
- Monitoring horses for any signs of illness, injury, or distress and reporting to management.
- Assisting with feeding routines as needed.
- Operating basic barn equipment safely.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform sustained heavy physical labor, including lifting, bending, shoveling, and standing for long periods.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for early morning shifts.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working around horses in various temperaments.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions carefully.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with horses, even personal or volunteer.
- Basic understanding of horse behavior and care.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
