Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Entry-Level Patient Transporters. This is an immediate hire opportunity, perfect for those eager to make a difference in a vital role within our hospitals. Full training will be provided, ensuring you have all the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. As a Patient Transporter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring patients are moved safely and efficiently between different areas of the hospital, contributing directly to their care and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, to and from various hospital departments (e.g., patient rooms, diagnostic areas, operating rooms).
- Assist patients with transfers to and from transport equipment, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Verify patient identification and ensure correct patient is being transported to the correct destination.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and hospital staff to provide updates and ensure smooth transitions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, safety procedures, and infection control guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of transport equipment.
- Respond to transport requests promptly and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Strong commitment to patient care and compassion.
- Physical stamina and the ability to push, pull, lift, and stand for extended periods.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety principles (training provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service role.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Understanding of medical terminology (not required, will be learned on the job).
