Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and respectful Cemetery Maintenance Hand to join our Facilities and Maintenance team within the City of Gold Coast Council. This role is crucial for ensuring our cemeteries are kept in an immaculate and dignified condition, providing a peaceful environment for visitors and a lasting tribute to those laid to rest. You will be involved in a variety of groundskeeping and maintenance tasks, working outdoors in all seasons to uphold the high standards of the Gold Coast.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, whipper snipping, edging, and weeding within cemetery grounds.
- Operate and maintain a range of small plant and equipment, such as mowers, blowers, and trimmers.
- Undertake minor landscaping tasks, including planting, pruning, and mulching.
- Assist with the preparation of grave sites, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Clean and maintain cemetery facilities, including pathways, monuments, and buildings.
- Conduct basic repairs and upkeep of infrastructure within the cemetery.
- Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Interact with the public in a respectful and empathetic manner, particularly during burial services.
Required Skills
- A valid Australian C Class Driver's Licence (manual endorsement preferred).
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a similar outdoor role.
- Current White Card (Construction Induction).
- Experience operating small plant and equipment.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Understanding of cultural sensitivities relating to cemetery operations.
