Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and compassionate Public Sector Benefits Assessor to join our dedicated team. In this rewarding on-site role, you will play a crucial part in connecting Lynchburg residents with the essential benefits they need, such as SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF. You will be responsible for interviewing applicants, assessing eligibility, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews with applicants to gather necessary information for benefit program eligibility.
- Process applications for various public assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, TANF) in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Verify applicant information through various systems and documentation to determine eligibility and benefit levels.
- Accurately calculate benefit amounts and explain program rules, rights, and responsibilities to clients.
- Maintain precise, confidential, and up-to-date client records in a secure database.
- Respond to client inquiries, provide guidance on program requirements, and assist with problem resolution.
- Collaborate effectively with other departmental staff, external agencies, and community partners.
- Stay informed about changes in policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to public assistance programs.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret and apply complex regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear interaction with clients and colleagues.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and empathetically with diverse populations facing various challenges.
- Proficiency in using standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn and apply complex regulations and manage a caseload efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field.
- One year of experience in customer service, administrative support, or a human services role.
- Familiarity with state and federal public assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, TANF).
- Experience with case management software or government benefits systems.
