Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Botanist to join our growing team in Wolverhampton. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to diverse and impactful projects, ensuring the ecological integrity of various landscapes. As a Botanist, you will be responsible for conducting botanical surveys, identifying plant species, collecting and analyzing ecological data, and preparing detailed reports and management plans to advise on ecological mitigation and enhancement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct botanical surveys and habitat assessments across various sites.
- Accurately identify plant species using taxonomic keys, field guides, and other appropriate methods.
- Collect, record, and analyze ecological data with precision.
- Prepare detailed and comprehensive botanical survey reports, ecological impact assessments, and management plans.
- Provide expert advice on ecological mitigation, enhancement strategies, and biodiversity net gain initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including ecologists, landscape architects, and project managers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation and best practice guidelines.
Required Skills
- A strong academic background with a degree in Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrable strong knowledge of British flora and diverse habitats.
- Proven proficiency in plant identification, including difficult groups.
- Practical experience with various ecological survey methodologies and data collection techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate reports.
- A full, valid UK driving license is essential for travel to various field sites.
- The ability to work both independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Botany, Ecology, or a related environmental field.
- Membership in a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) software for mapping and data analysis.
- Practical experience working on projects requiring protected species licenses.
