Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Health Physics Specialist to join our team in Pembroke Pines, FL. This vital role is responsible for ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment throughout our facilities, protecting patients, staff, and the public. The specialist will develop, implement, and maintain radiation safety programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation safety programs for medical applications.
- Perform radiation surveys, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations for various radiation sources and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with NRC, FDA, EPA, and state radiation safety regulations and institutional policies.
- Manage the dosimetry program, including monitoring personnel exposure and maintaining records.
- Conduct radiation safety training for staff, physicians, and other personnel.
- Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and proper functioning of radiation detection instrumentation.
- Investigate radiation incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in the design and shielding calculations for new or renovated radiation facilities.
- Participate in the radioactive waste management program, including disposal and inventory.
- Provide expert consultation on radiation safety matters to various departments.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Medical Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of radiation physics, radiation biology, and radiation protection principles.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations pertaining to radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment (e.g., NRC, Florida DOH).
- Proficiency with various radiation detection and measurement instrumentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including technical report writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Health Physics or Medical Physics.
- Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or eligibility for certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical or healthcare-related health physics role.
- Experience with radiation safety software and database management.
- Prior experience with regulatory inspections and audits.
