Job Description

Are you passionate about social impact and eager to contribute to meaningful research? Regional Insights Collaborative is seeking a motivated Social Researcher Intern to join our team in Ballarat. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, data analysis, and report writing within a think tank environment. You will support senior researchers on projects aimed at understanding and addressing critical social issues facing regional communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and gather relevant data from various sources.
  • Assist in designing research instruments, including surveys and interview guides.
  • Participate in data collection activities, which may include interviews, focus groups, or survey administration.
  • Support data entry, cleaning, and preliminary analysis using statistical software.
  • Contribute to the drafting of research reports, policy briefs, and presentations.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to research projects as needed.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in social issues and public policy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
  • Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata) or qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo).
  • Previous experience with academic research or volunteer work in a research-oriented setting.
