Job Description
The Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legislative Aide Intern to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining firsthand experience in the provincial legislative process, public policy, and government operations. The intern will provide essential support to Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and legislative staff, contributing to research, communications, and administrative tasks. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on policy issues, legislative matters, and constituent inquiries.
- Assist in drafting correspondence, reports, presentations, and other legislative documents.
- Monitor legislative proceedings, committee meetings, and relevant news.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, record-keeping, and office organization.
- Assist with constituent relations, including responding to inquiries and directing individuals to appropriate resources.
- Prepare briefing materials for MLAs on upcoming debates, votes, and meetings.
- Collaborate with legislative staff on various projects and initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent research and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, government, or political science.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Communications, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer or extracurricular experience in a political or community-oriented setting.
- Familiarity with the Nova Scotia political landscape and legislative process.
