Job Description
Embark on a rewarding career in healthcare with the Nova Scotia Health Authority as a Public Sector Phlebotomist Trainee. Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all theoretical and practical training modules.
- Learn and accurately perform venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques on diverse patient populations under direct supervision.
- Understand and adhere to all infection control, safety, and confidentiality protocols.
- Properly identify patients, label specimens, and complete necessary documentation.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, ensuring their comfort and understanding.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked workstation.
- Assist with other laboratory support tasks as assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No prior phlebotomy experience required; full paid training provided.
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a clinical setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated empathy and patience when interacting with patients.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous customer service experience.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Interest in pursuing a long-term career in healthcare.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform duties requiring fine motor skills.
