Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Regulatory Compliance Officer to join our team in Mildura, focusing specifically on Consumer Affairs. This critical role ensures that NAB’s operations, products, and services comply with all relevant consumer protection laws, regulations, and internal policies. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating compliance risks related to consumer interactions, contributing to the bank’s reputation for ethical practices and customer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret new and evolving consumer protection laws, regulations, and industry codes (e.g., ASIC Regulatory Guides, Banking Code of Practice).
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and assessments of consumer-facing processes, products, and communications.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to business units on consumer compliance requirements and best practices.
- Develop and implement compliance training programs for staff on consumer affairs topics.
- Investigate and resolve consumer compliance issues and breaches, ensuring timely and effective remediation.
- Assist in the preparation of compliance reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with legal, risk, and internal audit teams to ensure a cohesive approach to compliance management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes impacting consumer affairs.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a compliance, risk, or legal role within the financial services industry, with a focus on consumer affairs.
- Strong understanding of Australian consumer protection legislation (e.g., ASIC Act, NCCP Act, Competition and Consumer Act).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to business operations.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Certification in Compliance (e.g., GRC, ACAMS).
- Experience working directly with regulatory bodies such as ASIC.
- Knowledge of digital banking and emerging consumer protection challenges in the digital space.
