Job Description

Are you an aspiring Electrical Engineer with a passion for power systems? Join Western Power’s dynamic team in Busselton for an invaluable internship experience. This entry-level internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to real-world power distribution and transmission challenges. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining practical knowledge in network operations, maintenance, and future energy solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, develop essential industry skills, and contribute to critical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior electrical engineers in the design, analysis, and maintenance of power system components.
  • Conduct research and gather data related to network performance, reliability, and safety standards.
  • Support projects involving renewable energy integration, grid modernization, and smart grid technologies.
  • Perform site visits and inspections under supervision to understand operational challenges and safety protocols.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal review.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
  • Learn and adhere to all company safety procedures and industry regulations.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power electronics, and electromagnetic principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed coursework in power systems analysis, power generation, or grid operations.
  • Familiarity with simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, PSCAD, ETAP) is a plus.
  • Previous participation in engineering projects or academic competitions.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.
