Job Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to kickstart your career in community safety and environmental protection? The Rural City of Murray Bridge is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Trainee Council Ranger. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job training and support to develop the skills and knowledge required to become a competent Council Ranger. You will learn to uphold local laws, respond to community inquiries, and contribute to the well-being of our beautiful region. This is a field-based role that requires a proactive approach and a passion for serving the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all provided training programs and mentorship activities.
- Learn to interpret and enforce local government by-laws and relevant legislation under supervision.
- Assist senior rangers with patrols to monitor compliance with parking, animal management, and waste regulations.
- Respond to community inquiries and complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
- Document observations, incidents, and actions accurately and timely.
- Learn to identify and report potential hazards or environmental concerns.
- Assist with the care and transportation of seized animals.
- Contribute to public education initiatives regarding council regulations and community safety.
- Maintain all equipment and vehicles in a clean and operational state.
Required Skills
- Current and valid Australian Driver's License (manual transmission preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse community members.
- A genuine interest in local government, community safety, and environmental protection.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical duties.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn, adapt, and follow instructions.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience in customer service or community engagement.
- Knowledge of the local Murray Bridge area.
- A passion for animal welfare or environmental conservation.
